WildTangent to launch game rental service for Android

WildTangent announced at E3 that it would soon be launching an Android game rental service in collaboration with T-Mobile. Android Market allows a 15 minutes trial period for Games. But that’s tad too low to fully test a game. The service would allow users to rent Android games for a day, charging as low as 25 cents per rental depending on its actual price. After one day, the users also get an option to buy the game with the rental fee deducted from the game’s price.

WildTangent already provides rental service for PC games and existing user accounts can be used to access mobile rental service. It would support popular WildCoin virtual currency used to get discounts on rentals and app purchases. Users can also allow in-game advertisements to earn WildCoins and free rentals.

Although most mobile apps cost less than $2, WildTangent rentals would be a good option for high-end games costing $4.99 and $9.99. The rental service would go live by the end of 2011.
