RIM offers $100 ‘app’ology

RIM says it is sorry for its 4 day service outage last week, and is now offering free apps worth $100 to BlackBerry users as an apology. RIM would be offering selected premium apps for free which are worth over $100. Currently RIM has listed 12 apps in its press release which would be available for free from Wednesday, October 19th until December 31, 2011. RIM’s list includes games like SIMS 3, Bejeweled and N.O.V.A., photo editor app Photo Editor Ultimate and pay-to-play music service Shazam Encore, to name a few. RIM would also be offering one month free Technical Support.

Weather BlackBerry users would accept the $100 apology is to be seen, but we believe it is a good opportunity by RIM to show its users some of the its great app offerings (an area where it has always been criticized of not having much to offer against Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android).

From the pictures, we can see integrated calendar, contacts and messages, separated from BlackBerry Bridge versions. Another interesting finding is the native BBM app which doesn’t look greyed out like the other Bridge apps. A native Email client is also rumored to be releasing with V2.0 which currently cannot be spotted in the pictures. Also, long time rumored Android App Player is nowhere to be seen but we are hoping to see it with the release of V2.0. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear an official word from RIM and as the story progresses.
